What is the service life of short fiber geotextile?
People are always interesting in searching the ways of long-time anti-UV and HDPE geomembrane protection, because of the natural aging of short fiber geotextile. Generally, natural aging and the changes of material life-time caused by other environment factors are all called aging. The changes of material can be judged by researching the mechanical properties’ changes of the material. Under certain conditions, we can estimate the material lifetime by the changes of material property.

Short fiber geotextile is made by the highest quality polyethylene resin. To prevent the aging caused by Ultraviolet light, we add 2%-3% powdered carbon black into the material. Carbon black can prevent the property declination caused by natural aging effectively to about 50years. High-density polyethylene has stable action of anti-ultraviolet light and heat under anaerobic conditions. The mechanism of polyethylene undergoing random chain scission and intramolecular and intermolecular transfer reactions during heat drop, Molecular chain breakage decomposition occurs only at high temperatures above 350 °C, Degradation products are ethylene, propylene, butene and longer olefin fragments with molecular chains. Not only the quality of the additives is important, but the polyethylene resin itself also plays a vital role in UV resistance. Many of the properties of the resin can be adjusted to increase its ability to withstand UV rays. It has now been demonstrated that lowering the density of the polyethylene base resin reduces the ageing and chemical resistance of the resin while also reducing the effects of chemical stabilizers and carbon black.
